The price of stamps for a standard letter up to 100g will rise by 1p on 29 March, Royal Mail has announced.

The cost of a first class stamp will increase to 64p, and the cost of second class will rise to  55p.

Gillian Guy, Chief Executive of Citizens Advice, said:

“The universal postal service is crucial for people across the UK.

“While the price increase seems modest, it is above inflation which will disappoint consumers who would have hoped for a more gentle rise.

“It’s important companies do all they can to make clear the differences in postal prices - for example it can cost less to post the same parcel online than in person at a post office.”
