Coronavirus update

18 Mar 2020 02:20 PM

We have decided, for the wellbeing of our visitors, staff and suppliers, to close The National Archives to visitors until further notice as of 19:00 yesterday (Tuesday 17 March).

All events, tours and school visits will be cancelled until the end of May 2020. Other on site services will be suspended while we remain closed to visitors.

Some of our online services will also be affected during this period, as they rely on staff having access to our building and collections. We will provide further details about this shortly.

Can I still get research advice while you are closed?

We will be able to respond to email and Live Chat enquiries during this time, but unable to respond to phone or postal enquiries.

Will I get a refund if an event is cancelled?

Yes, everyone who has booked a ticket for an event scheduled before the end of May will be contacted and a full refund will automatically be issued. For events due to take place from June, we will monitor the situation and advise customers in good time.

Are school visits to The National Archives still going ahead?

All on site school visits are suspended until the end of May. Schools can still access our online resources and book online sessions with our education team, and future school visits can be booked with our education team.

Can I move my existing advance document order to another day?

We are suspending this service for the foreseeable future. All advance orders placed for the next few weeks will be cancelled.

I placed an order for copies of records, can I still expect to receive it?

We are working hard to fulfil all existing copying orders, but cannot guarantee that this will happen before our building closes to staff. We are not accepting new orders until further notice.
