The NCSC has shared expertise during a cyber security conference in Muscat, Oman

Cyber security experts from the UK have shared their expertise to a conference of leading CEOs at an international conference.

Delegates from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) were invited to the CNI CEO conference in Muscat, Oman, to pass on learnings since the organisation became operational two years ago.

Attendees heard NCSC Chief Executive Ciaran Martin deliver the conference’s keynote speech on Tuesday 15 January, which explained why boards need to grasp the very real online threats to their companies.

The international message follows steps to help demystify cyber security for Britain’s biggest boards, equipping them with basic technical knowledge to understand initial risks and areas of improvement.

The NCSC’s Board Toolkit, harnessing world-class expertise, highlights how digital security is no longer the sole responsibility of an IT team.

Ciaran Martin said:

“The NCSC is committed to making the UK the safest place to live online – and we want to share what we have learned with our international partners.

“Corporate leaders need to understand what threats are out there, and what the most effective ways are of managing them.

“We were delighted to be invited to Oman to discuss what is now a mainstream, international business risk.”

During the visit the NCSC was also invited to the Advanced Cybersecurity Academy (ACA), which opened in November 2018.

The state-of-the art facility is the first technical academy of its kind in the nation, specialising in hands-on cyber security training and inspiring the next generation of Omani cyber security experts.

Ciaran Martin added:

“Skills and education are one of the most powerful weapons in the global fight against the cyber threat and it was fantastic to see the exciting capabilities of the ACA first-hand.

“It’s more important than ever to encourage more young people into the cyber security industry to help protect government, business and the wider economy.

“We hope to see more of our global partners investing in education to provide a safer future for citizens.”
