Girls across the UK will be able to enter the National Cyber Security Centre’s flagship competition for schools from today (Monday 2 December).

The CyberFirst Girls’ Competition is the NCSC’s free to enter contest in which girls are invited to form teams and take part in a series of online cyber security focused puzzles and challenges.

This year, the competition will take on an exciting new format, which will include semi-finals throughout the UK, and a national final bringing together the best and brightest female talent from across the country.

In its fourth year, the competition aims to nurture the next generation of cyber security professionals, encouraging more young women and girls to consider a future career in the industry.

Chris Ensor, NCSC Deputy Director for Skills and Growth, said:

“The new nationwide semi-finals we have introduced for this year’s CyberFirst Girl’s Competition allow us to unearth cyber talent from all over the UK.

“The thousands of girls who have previously taken part have found the experience both challenging and fun, and I would again strongly encourage girls up and down the country to get involved to make 2020 our biggest competition yet.”

Registration for the 2020 CyberFirst Girls Competition is open from 8am Monday 2 December to girls from Year 8 (England and Wales), Year 9 (Northern Ireland) and S2 (Scotland). Registration is open until 21 Jan 2020, allowing teams to register throughout the qualifier round.

The highest scoring teams from the opening round will go through to the semi-finals, taking place on 8 February in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and in the North, Midlands, South West, and South East regions of England and in London. The final takes place on 15 and 16 March in Wales.
