MI5 Director General Sir Andrew Parker gave an interview to the Financial Times, in which he stressed the need for MI5 to engage with the accelerating impact of technology to stay ahead of the threat.

Warning that "it's us that needs to change as we use these new technologies, not the technologies that need to adapt to us", Sir Andrew explained how advances in technology were transforming the way MI5 operates.

Sir Andrew also spoke about the vital role that partnerships with the private sector play in MI5's success, explaining that "we must attach ourselves to the technology wave which is out there in the private sector".

Sir Andrew emphasised how, despite being a secret organisation, MI5 is a modern, global intelligence agency that must find ways to exploit the technological progress made in private industry for public good.
