A woman from Devon has appeared in court charged with attempting to smuggle a quantity of cocaine into the UK.

24-year-old Jade Cherise Sarwar from Torquay was stopped at St Pancras International station after arriving on a Eurostar service from Paris on Sunday 13 January.

A search of baggage by Border Force officers led to the recovery of around half a kilo of cocaine, and the case was referred to the National Crime Agency for investigation.

After being questioned by NCA investigators she was charged with importation offences. At Uxbridge Magistrates on Tuesday 15 January she was remanded in custody until her next appearance at Isleworth Crown Court on 14 February.
