Edinburgh charity secures life changing Lottery cash

An Edinburgh charity helping adults with additional needs into work has yesterday (27 AUGUST) picked up a Big Lottery Fund award of £262,000.

The Broomhouse Centre’s Café will provide 90 adults with training opportunities that will develop their social skills, confidence and team working before taking part in work experience catering placements.  Those taking part will be able to work towards professional Food and Health qualifications supported by Borders College. 

Welcoming the award, Broomhouse Centre, Marie Anderson, Centre Manager, said: “We are delighted to receive this award from The Big Lottery Fund. This funding will enable the Café Training Project within The Broomhouse Centre to continue as a central community food resource offering innovative food solutions and employment and skills to people with multiple deprivations for the next 3 years, during which time we are also planning to knock down and rebuild the centre!”

The Broomhouse Centre is one of nine groups sharing in £4,172,654 from Big Lottery Fund’s Investing in Communities programme which aims to improve the quality of life for people and communities across Scotland.

Big Lottery Fund Scotland Chair, Maureen McGinn, said: “This award will help bring improvements to the lives of vulnerable adults who need support to gain the skills necessary for the world of work. We are delighted to continue funding the Broomhouse Centre to deliver this important activity as they provide this valuable guidance and help to individuals who need it most.”
