FCO Minister responds to rejected appeal of activists in Egypt
8 Apr 2014 03:42 PM
Hugh Robertson expresses concern that the appeal
of the Egyptian activists Ahmed Maher, Ahmed Douma and Mohammed Adel has been
rejected.
Mr
Robertson said:
I
am concerned that the appeal of the activists Ahmed Maher, Ahmed Douma and
Mohammed Adel has been rejected condemning them to a three year jail sentence.
The UK government places great importance on making progress on the political
roadmap for a democratic transition which the Egyptian authorities committed to
in July 2013. The freedom to protest peacefully is an integral part of
achieving a successful transition to democracy in Egypt.
