Family favourites are just a DLR ride away

This month the East End's favourite railway celebrates 30 years since its launch.

Serving just 15 stations when it opened in 1987, the driverless light railway now boasts 45 stretching from central to east and south east London.

Today, the area is a vibrant part of the Capital, packed with popular attractions.

Here are some of the best family destinations you can get to by DLR.

A day at the urban beach

Soak up the sun and watch the wakeboarders on London's urban beach at Royal Victoria. It's open throughout July and August, and water sports are available from April to November.

Mudchute Park and Farm

Spanning 32 acres, this park and farm on the Isle of Dogs is home to more than 100 animals, including alpacas and donkeys. The larger animals roam fields overlooking Canary Wharf and there are smaller ones in the petting zoo.The park includes a riding school for all ages with an all-weather, flood-lit riding arena, show jumps and cross-country fences.

Cutty Sark and the Royal Observatory

The historic tea clipper was re-opened to the public by the Queen in April 2012 after being gutted by fire and undergoing a complete restoration. Visitors can see the Cutty Sark's hull as the ship is lifted more than 11ft above its dry berth.

Don't miss the chance to visit the nearby Royal Observatory, home to some of Britain's best sea-faring artefacts and the location of the Prime Meridian line.

The Tower of London

An estimated £20bn worth of jewels is housed within the tower. See some of the treasure and find out about the prominent role it has played in English history when visiting this London landmark.

Emirates Air Line

Offering views of the Capital from 90metres high, the UK's only urban cable car is well worth a visit. Families can explore the O2 in North Greenwich and ExCeL London at Royal Victoria at each terminal. While there, try out a flight simulator at the Emirates Aviation Experience.

Newham City Farm

One of London's largest city farms, visitors can see horses, alpacas and birds of prey as well as smaller animals like rabbits and guinea pigs. There's also an orchard, children's play area and a playbarn.
