A former Staffordshire police constable is due in court charged with misconduct in public office. It follows an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

The charge against Paul Baron, aged 53, is in connection with an alleged attempt to form an inappropriate relationship with a woman he had met during the course of his duties.

Our investigation began in February last year (2019) following a referral from the force and following the completion of our enquiries in December we submitted a file to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to consider charges. The CPS made the decision to charge Mr Baron in May, at which time he was no longer serving with the force.

He is due to make a first appearance at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court today (Friday 4 September).
