Launched this week. This new App will allow viewers to browse and search across a range of live and on-demand content from the PSBs and other broadcaster content.

2018 was a successful year for Digital UK and the Freeview platform – one of growth, innovation and ever stronger partnerships. In June, DUK announced a new five-year agreement with their shareholders – BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Arqiva – to advance the expansion of Freeview and build on the success of Freeview Play, a connected TV service. This agreement allows them to innovate the Freeview service to ensure it continues to meet audience expectations as the competitive and viewing landscape evolves.

The new mobile app, which is available now on iOS from the App Store and arriving on Android in March, will allow viewers to browse and search across a range of live and on-demand content from the PSBs and other broadcaster content.

With the majority of viewing still to the TV set, the evolution of Freeview Play remains a key focus. In just over three years since launch, sales of Freeview Play devices are already approaching six million, testament to the commitment of our partners who include manufacturers, retailers and broadcasters. In 2019, active users of the service are predicted to exceed four million, making Freeview Play the UK’s fastest growing hybrid TV platform.
