Funding Boost for Northern Ireland Groups

Isolated older people and adults with learning disabilities are among those benefiting from almost £800,000 of National Lottery funding.

A total of 86 community groups and schools across Northern Ireland are sharing in £736,023 from Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All programme.

Saval Cara Club, based outside Newry, has been awarded a £4,685 grant to run a range of creative and health programmes for older people to reduce isolation and reduce loneliness, including boccia, card making, flower arranging, trips away, and a Christmas dinner.

Walkway Community Association, based in east Belfast, is using a £9,980 grant to run life coaching, aromatherapy and stress management classes for local woman to empower them and improve their ability to better cope with stress, anxiety and low self-esteem.

Termon Community Responders, based in the Carrickmore area in Co Tyrone, also received a £10,000 grant to establish five new subgroups of first responders to better serve the local area. They’re also recruiting new volunteer members to support these subgroups.

Carnalridge Primary School PTA based in Portrush, has been awarded a £9,999 grant to build an adventure trail and a sensory garden with an outdoor learning hut to encourage physical activity and learning about nature.

Also receiving funding is Parents & Friends of Glenside Community. The group, based in Strabane, is using a £5,000 grant to deliver workshops for adults with learning disabilities to help them appreciate and perform music through singing and drumming.
