On Wednesday 17 July, the Professional Standards team attended the PRCA Internship and Apprenticeship awards ceremony, an industry awards programme aimed at celebrating diversity and inclusion within the PR and communications industry.

Professional Standards Team with awards

The PRCA is the world’s largest PR professional body, representing well over 30,000 practitioners and promotes all aspects of public relations and communications work.

The Government Communication Service Professional Standards Team won two awards for our record breaking schemes, for the Best Internship programme and Best Apprenticeship programme! We are also proud of our very own members, Tanaye Reid and Jake Rodd, who were shortlisted for Best Intern and Tayler Caires and Hyo Adams, who were shortlisted for Best Apprentice category.

This year, we increased numbers to 70 places across 25 departments and agencies, and received almost 500 applications, which was doubled from last year. The GCS Internship scheme offers a 6-12 week paid placement in communications teams across departments and agencies, providing students from diverse backgrounds an insight into a career in government communications.

Best Internship and Apprenticeship awards

The GCS Apprenticeship scheme is a paid 18 month programme providing school leavers and those considering a career change the opportunity to begin a career in communications whilst earning a qualification. Apprentices are placed in a range of communications teams across government. This year, we doubled places to 42 across 22 departments, and received over 600 applications, which is triple last year.

Special thanks to PRCA and Signal A.I. for organising the awards and team responsible for running the schemes; Daveena Solanki and Tanaye Reid.
