Commenting on the monthly GDP figures published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), which show UK GDP rising by 2.1% into August, but the pace of recovery slowing, TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady recently said:

“We still lack the full national recovery plan needed for a fast and sustained recovery.

“Hard hit industries like aviation, retail and hospitality need support through the winter. And we need a public investment push to help create good jobs. TUC research has found that over a million jobs can be created in the next two years by fast-tracking investment in green transport and infrastructure.

“The government should convene a National Recovery Council, so that government, business and unions can create a plan together to rebuild a stronger, greener economy.”
