Good practice in research commercialisation: Request for evidence

15 Jun 2017 12:48 PM

HEFCE has issued a request for evidence on existing good practice and key issues in research contracting.

The HEFCE-universities Knowledge Exchange (KE) Framework Steering Group (Note 1) has asked the Association for University Research and Industry Links (AURIL), PraxisUnico and the Association of Research Managers and Administrators (ARMA) (Note 2) to help compile evidence about existing good practice in research commercialisation. This is focused on all forms of research and development partnering and contracting between universities and businesses and other enterprises.

We have published a summary of evidence collected to, and we are asking university experts to submit evidence by Monday 4 September 2017

The KE framework programme aims to support a culture of continuous improvement in universities. Its steering group is chaired by Professor Trevor McMillan, Vice-Chancellor of Keele University.  The steering group is collecting evidence to inform a potential review of this topic, to sit alongside the review of good practice in technology transfer published in September 2016 (Note 3). This request for evidence excludes areas already addressed in the technology transfer review.

Notes

  1. HEFCE was initially asked to develop the framework in the Government’s science and innovation strategy, ‘Our plan for growth: Science and innovation’ in December 2014. Further detail on the framework, including membership of the steering group, is at www.hefce.ac.uk/ke/goodpractice/.
  2. From 1 April 2017, PraxisUnico and AURIL have formed one organisation which represents the knowledge exchange and commercialisation profession in the UK. ARMA is the UK’s professional association for research managers and administrators.
