Every month we’ll be producing members-only insights on recently published opportunities, the largest tech contracts published over the previous month, and some large tech contracts that are due to expire this time next year, so people can plan accordingly!

Live opportunities in Public Sector IT

Ten councils in Northern Ireland have banded together for a contract to secure Gigabit fibre for the region. Worth £15m the deadline for this tender is 5 June. 

Leicester City Council intends to run a new procurement to secure a telecom provider(s) to deploy Next Generation Access solutions — those capable of achieving a minimum of 30 Mbps download speed — for the remaining areas in scope for NGA deployment. The contract is worth £6.79M. 

The Ministry of Defence is looking to procure equipment to help them communicate "Underwater and Overland". The contract will be worth £5M and the deadline for applications is 5 October. 

Swindon Borough Council is looking to procure a cloud hosted system to support the UTMC that will offer an effective method for improving the monitoring and management of networks (such as traffic signals and VMS) through data and automation, to help manage and improve traffic conditions.

Ordnance Survey has published a Contract Notice for the provision of speed data relating to roads wihin Great Britain. 

Biggest contracts awarded

The biggest contract to the value of £1BN was awarded to Dell by HealthTrust Europe for the provision of 'Enterprise Solutions for End to End Information Communication Technology'.The Government Digital Service (GDS) has awarded a contract worth £49.9M to Through Technology Limited for the provision of improving the oversight of government domain names, and to help existing owners of government domain names better understand how to manage them. The Office of Gas & Electricity Markets has awarded a contract to the value of £28M to multiple suppliers - this Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS) will support the Ofgem DDaT team. Multiple suppliers have been awarded a contract worth £23M by the Crown Commercial Service (CCS), who has established a framework agreement for the provision of Vehicle Telematics for Crown Bodies and other buyers. Finally, Informed Solutions Limited has been awarded a contract to the value of £6.99M by the Department for Transport for the provision of ongoing Service Management, including: Digital Delivery, Technical Build and Live Support & Maintenance for the provision of Clean Air Zone. 

Expiries

The expiration date of existing contracts gives some indication of which buyers might be in the market for IT services in the near future.

The following contracts are due to expire in April 2021:

The largest contract due to expire is a contract to the value of £350M that the Metropolitan Police hold with seven suppliers for the provision of services relating to end-to-end digital solutions that solve business problems. The Ministry of Justice currently has a contract worth £15.5M with Oracle for 'Support & Maintenance of MoJ licensed estate'. Multiple suppliers currently hold a contract with the BBC worth £12M, delivering user experience and design to create and deliver highly creative user experience solutions in line with overall business and user experience strategy for the BBC's online products and services. The Ministry of Defence has a contract with E3 Media Limited, worth £4.1M for the provision of Royal Navy Web Services and Digital Support Services. Finally, the smallest contract due to expire in April 2021 is the Ministry of Defence's contract with Carbon60 Limited, this contract has been to ensure cyber protection and risk management of Navy command and is worth £1.75M.
