The framework outlines principles and practices that can be used to assess, communicate, and improve the quality of data in government.

This week the Government Data Quality Hub (DQH) published a framework for data quality management in government: Towards a data quality culture. The framework outlines principles and practices that can be used to assess, communicate, and improve the quality of data in government, derived from best practice drawn from organisations across government, in collaboration with GDS.

Data is extremely important and underpins everything the government does, so it is vital that government have high quality data that they can trust. The DQH is asking that organisations put their data on a path towards better quality, this requires organisations to make incremental changes to the way they manage their data such as:

The framework will grow and iterate over the next two years and the DQH is currently working on training and guidance to support data practitioners in embedding the framework in their organisations. To help shape future work they are also running a survey about government data quality so do share your thoughts.

The Government Data Quality Hub is committed to helping the public sector understand, assess, and improve data quality, but will be seeking help to achieve this. If you would like to talk to them about the framework or want to know about the work they do, you can email them at DQHub@ons.gov.uk or tweet them at @DQHubUKGov.
