Live opportunities in public sector IT

Last month saw the advertisement of some big opportunities in the public sector IT market. These include Police & Crime Commissioner for Northamptonshire advertising for a delivery partner that is able to provide a wide range of standard IT products, to include but not be limited to end user devices, audio visual equipment and network infrastructure. Suppliers need to apply by May 12th for a chance of winning this contract.

Crown Commercial Service is putting in place a Pan Government Collaborative Framework Agreement for use by UK public sector bodies. Suppliers interested in Digital Outcomes and Specialists framework must register on the digital marketplace by 14th, and full instructions on how to register are included in the ITT.

Department for the Economy requires a supplier to deploy its project stratum objectives and provide access to Next Generation Access (NGA) broadband services and promote the provision of gigabit capable infrastructure within the intervention area across all parts of Northern Ireland. Suppliers need to apply by 20th for a chance to win this £200m contract.

Yorkshire Purchasing Organisation are looking for Providers to be appointed onto a Framework Agreement for the provision of technology hardware, software and services. Suppliers have until end of August (22nd) to bid.

Biggest contracts awarded

Planning for 2020

The expiration date of existing contracts gives some indication of which buyers might be in the market for IT services in the near future. Some big IT contracts will expire in July 2020 and there will be some great opportunities for suppliers! The largest contract (£79.4m) to expire awarded in 2017 will be between HMRC and Fujitsu for managed desktop services.

Herefordshire Council will also have an expiring contract with Airband Community Partner and Voneus for the broadband project worth £11m. NHS Business Services Authority will have a £8.9m contract expiring with Atos for the interim IT infrastructure services for pensions. Home Office awarded a contract to Mastek worth £8m for the application development and 3rd line support for the Home Office Biometrics Programme, which will expire next year. And finally, the Department for Education will seek a new supplier for cloud support after their contract with Nimbus Digital & Technology Innovations worth £5m will expire in July 2020.
