Greening: Afghanistan landslide relief underway

The UK is working
with the UN to respond to the Badakshan
landslide.
In
response to the deadly landslide in Badakshan province the UK’s
International Development Secretary Justine Greening has said:
I
send my deepest sympathies to those affected by the tragic landslide in
Afghanistan’s Badakshan province.
A
full picture of the remote disaster is still emerging, but it is clear there
has been a significant loss of life and many people are in need of emergency
relief. Our priority is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the
survivors.
UN,
Red Crescent and other response teams are already on the ground and are working
in extremely difficult conditions to provide emergency relief. I pay tribute to
their brave efforts.
The
UK is closely monitoring the situation and stands ready to provide further
assistance as needed. Our recent £10 million support to the UN’s
Common Humanitarian Fund will ensure additional relief supplies can be
delivered as required.
