Today is World Food Day, a global action day celebrated every year on the 16th October. On this day, the world comes together to declare its commitment to end world hunger and to ensure food security and nutritious diets for all.

One of the biggest challenges of the 21st century is ensuring that we have enough food to feed the seven-billion-and-counting people on our planet. Whilst the logistics of achieving this aim are still being debated, the end goal is for certain; for the world to achieve something called ‘food security’.

In answer to this global challenge, research at STFC’s facilities is looking at new, inventive ways of increasing crop yields, improving the efficiency of agriculture and how we can store food in a more sustainable way.

Cutting edge research at STFC’s Central Laser Facility and ISIS Neutron and Muon Source is revolutionising what we know about food science and paving the way for future global food security.

You can find out how on the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source website.
