The IPCC is investigating police contact with Bradley Cresswell prior to his death in Watford in September 2016. The investigationfollowed a mandatory referral from Hertfordshire Constabulary in October 2016.
Mr Cresswell, 21, died in the early hours of 18 September in the High Street area of Watford. He had been assaulted twice prior to his death.
Ridwaan Shaikh was convicted of manslaughter at the Old Bailey on Wednesday 17 May.
The IPCC is investigating the circumstances of Hertfordshire Police contact with Mr Cresswell, as officers were in the area and spoke to Mr Cresswell after the first assault. A notice of investigation has been served on one officer. Misconduct notices do not imply guilt but are to inform the officer that their behaviour and conduct is under investigation and the level of severity.
The investigation had been suspended while parallel criminal proceedings took place, and will now be resumed.
