The
Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) has announced plans to recruit
200 staff to its new office in Birmingham. The IPCC’s new premises, based
in Quinton, are due to open in July 2014.
The
200 additional staff will be recruited over the next few months and will see
the Quinton office take on new independent investigations into forces across
the region. The office is expected to cover a number of forces across the
Midlands including West Midlands Police, Staffordshire, West Mercia,
Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and
Warwickshire.
The
IPCC’s dedicated recruitment website, will contain details of the IPCC and the
opportunities on offer.
The
new office and staff are part of the IPCC’s expansion programme announced
by the Home Secretary in February 2013. This sees the IPCC’s budget
increase by over 50% in 2014/15 and is intended to give the IPCC capacity to
deal with more serious and sensitive allegations against the
police.
The
IPCC is looking for a range of staff from investigators to lawyers, analysts
and support staff. While some investigative experience will be needed for some
roles, the IPCC is looking for people from diverse backgrounds and there will
also be training opportunities.
IPCC Acting Chief Executive Amanda Kelly
said:
“This is an exciting time for the IPCC and this
recruitment drive is the next, vital step in our expansion programme. It gives
us the opportunity to attract new staff from diverse backgrounds and with
different skills and experience to bring to our team.
“We are particularly interested in hearing from
people with good analytical skills, who can deal sensitively with members of
the public, often in very difficult circumstances. Birmingham is the ideal
location for us.”
IPCC Commissioner Derrick Campbell
said:
“It is vital that we recruit people that are above
all open minded and conscientious when it comes to challenging information and
dealing with the police and with the public. Practical skills and
integrity are a must as we recruit to our new office in Birmingham and work
towards improving public confidence in the police complaints system. This is a
fantastic opportunity for us and for the people in the West
Midlands.”
A
new online recruitment portal is now
live and potential applicants can get further information at from the
site.
