IfG statement in response to "Brexit plan"

Dr Hannah White, Director of Research, says: "The Government says it will produce a plan before triggering Article 50. The details of this plan are as yet unclear.

"What is clear is that the Government must be more explicit about how it is preparing for Brexit. Yesterday’s motion is a reaction to the Government’s strategy of silence around its plans for Brexit. The Government should respond by clearly stating how departments, devolved administrations, business and the public will be involved in Brexit negotiations; what options for a future relationship are on and off the table; and what opportunities it wants to pursue.

"Providing clarity is about making sure the Government is ready to get the best deal for the country – not about compromising its negotiating hand. "
