We are continuing our investigation into a road traffic collision in which a Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) van collided with a woman in Streatham.

The police van was travelling in the third lane and passed stationary traffic before it collided with the woman on Streatham High Road, at approximately 11.55am on Tuesday, 7 May. The police van was responding to an emergency call and had its blue lights and sirens activated.

The woman, who is in her 50s, was seriously injured and taken to hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

We were informed by the MPS and launched an investigation. Our investigators went to the scene, post incident procedures and have been gathering evidence.

Sal Naseem, IOPC Regional Director, said:

“My thoughts are with the woman who remains in a critical condition in hospital, her family and all those affected by this incident, including all of the emergency services involved. We are in contact with the injured woman’s family and we have explained our role and offered our support to them.

“It is important that we establish all of the circumstances surrounding the incident and have already gathered key evidence in this investigation; including obtaining body worn video, dash cam footage and CCTV. All evidence will be analysed as part of our investigation. The police officers involved in the collision are being treated as witnesses to our investigation and we have also identified some members of the public as witnesses.”
