Investigation launched after woman dies following collision with police car

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is appealing for witnesses after a woman struck by a marked police car in Kensington has died.

The police car, which was responding to an emergency, was travelling along Warwick Road when it collided with the woman, aged 22, near the junction with Warwick Lane at 9.55pm, Tuesday 13 August.

The woman, who has been identified as Jade Mutua, was taken to hospital and placed on life support, but died at 6.51pm on Thursday 15 August.

Regional Director Sal Naseem, said:

“My thoughts remain with Jade’s family and friends in this tragic incident and I am truly sorry for their loss. My thoughts are also with those who may have been affected by this incident.

“We have already spoken to witnesses who saw the incident and have begun analysing data taken from the scene of the collision. We have also met with Jade’s family to explain our role.”
