Cllr Ian Hudspeth, Chairman of the Local Government Association’s Community Wellbeing Board, responds to an All-Party Parliamentary Group on Autism report which calls for better support and services for people with autism in England.

“People with autism should be able to live ordinary lives in their communities, as well as have access to personalised and joined-up support by an appropriately skilled workforce.

“Councils are already doing as much as they can to provide this and the recent £3.5 billion package for local government announced in the Spending Round for next year will help them, as they strive to support the most vulnerable members of our society.

“In addition to this we also need a long-term, sustainable funding solution for adult social care, so that all those who use and work in social care including people with autism have the support and certainty they need.”
