The live music industry across the UK is becoming more accessible to disabled fans – with big benefits to the economy, according to research just published by music charity Attitude is Everything.

business-critical for the sector’s future

The research compiled sales from festivals and venues signed to the charity’s Charter of Best Practice. It found that almost 144,000 tickets were sold to Deaf and disabled patrons in 2015, compared to 114,000 in 2014 - an increase of 26%.

This isn’t just great news for fans; it has significant benefits for the industry too: the direct economic impact of these extra sales, including spend on food and drink, is estimated at an impressive £7.5million.

Abid Hussain, Director of Diversity, Arts Council England, said:

“We all know the arts should be accessible to everyone, which is why we champion the #CreativeCase. What this research from Attitude is Everything proves is that this isn’t just a desirable goal for our industry that we should all aspire to, it is business-critical for the sector’s future.”
