Lottery cash helps ex-service personnel carve their future

A Glasgow based social enterprise transforming the lives of ex service men and women through music and woodworking is amongst the latest groups to share in over £1.1 million from Awards for All Scotland.

Across the country, 165 community groups yesterday shared National Lottery funding worth £1,172,315.  Find out where funding has gone in your area.

Based in Glasgow, The Re-Tune project receives £10,000 to pilot a programme that will help veterans overcome isolation, loneliness and alcohol and substance misuse by gaining new skills in woodwork and music. Veterans will be trained to repair donated musical instruments, as well as learning how to play them.  

David McHarg, Re:Tune Founder and Director, said: “We are thrilled to receive the award from Big Lottery Fund.  The funding is a lifeline for The Re-Tune project, it will enable us to develop and offer more places for ex-service men and women to participate. We are delighted Big Lottery Fund has confidence in allowing us to deliver a structured pilot of the project. It alleviates the uncertainty in our finances for this year and lets us all do what we do best... helping people reclaim their potential.”

Awards for All Scotland gives out grants of between £500 and £10,000 to projects that bring communities together to enjoy a range of activities.

An Awards for All spokesperson, said yesterday: “Today we are announcing over £1 million that will support projects helping to improve the lives of hundreds of people in communities across Scotland.  The Re:Tune project is a unique example of this in action helping ex-service personnel regain the skills and confidence to move onto a brighter future. All of the grants awarded show the variety of projects that can be funded through Awards For All and how even the smallest amounts of money can make the biggest difference.”

Awards for All Scotland is a partnership by sportscotland and Big Lottery Fund. The programme re-opened to applications on 4 August 2014 with a new and improved simpler application form. Groups can download this form here www.biglotteryfund.org.uk/awardsforallscotland.
