MI5 has been named Employer of the Year at the 2018 British LGBT Awards.

The annual event, which this year took place on Friday 11 May in London, celebrates diversity and inclusion in the UK and showcases organisations that have demonstrated a commitment to the LGBT community.

In the category for Best Employer, MI5 was joined by competition from large organisations including Deloitte, Channel 4 and VISA.

Celebrating the significant accolade, Director General Andrew Parker said:

For MI5 to win the British LGBT Employer of the Year award is a huge honour for all of us in the organisation, and I am very grateful to the judges.

The award demonstrates the commitment we have made to ensure that MI5 is an inclusive place to work for everyone.

I really believe that MI5 is stronger when we draw on the richest mix of the fullest possible range of talented people. Put simply, fewer people will die at the hands of the terrorists; fewer of the nation's secrets will be stolen by our enemies, the stronger and more inclusive our workforce is.

I am proud of the great strides we have made and know our staff share in my vision for a diverse and thriving Security Service. Working by these values is what makes MI5 stronger, and it's what helps keep this country safe.
