techUK responds to Home Office publication of its approach to crime prevention

The Home Office has this morning published the Modern Crime Prevention Strategy, which lays out government's approach to tackliing crime.

Responding to the publication, Henry Rex, programme manager, justice & emergency services commented:

“Industry will be pleased to see the prominent role that technology plays in the Home Office’s Modern Crime Prevention Strategy. The Home Office has rightfully acknowledged that although “traditional” crimes like burglary and car theft may be on the decline, “hidden” crimes, such as cyber-crime, are rapidly increasing. The use of technology by criminals gives criminals greater speed, access and reach to affect potential victims and presents a unique challenge to law enforcement.

“It is only through a modern crime prevention strategy that incorporates technological advances and the greater use of data analytics, that law enforcement, businesses, academia and the public can better work together to prevent crime.”
