Latest figures reveal almost 3% more
visits during April 2014 compared to the same period in 2013.
4.6 million visits were made to museums and
galleries sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport in April
2014 according to Official Statistics published today. This equates to nearly a
3% increase on the same period last year.
Popular exhibitions such as Matisse: Cut-Outs at Tate Modern and Vikings:
Life and Legend at the British Museum have helped to boost numbers in
the lead up to Summer.
These
statistics support findings from the Taking Part Survey,
which showed that over half of all adults in England had visited a museum or
art gallery in the last year. Further to this, 78% had attended or participated
in the arts and 73% had visited a heritage site.
