Museum of London will continue to lead museum development in the capital with the support of funding from the Arts Council's Museum development fund.

It will be part of a network of nine organisations across the country that will lead on museum development in England, providing professional advice to all museums, but particularly smaller organisations. The museums' priority is to improve the sustainability and resilience of the museums sector, helping to maximise benefits to audiences and communities.

To support its work over the three years (2015-18), Museum of London will receive £729,000. Collectively the nine museums will receive around £3 million per year.

Joyce Wilson, Area Director, London, Arts Council England, said: "We are delighted to have been able to support Museum of London's continued contribution to museum development and excellence in London through the Museum development fund. It has already established an important network of partnerships and gained an unparalleled understanding and appreciation of the variety and significance of the capital's museums and this funding will enable it to build on this success.'

Museum of London Director Sharon Ament said: "We are delighted to receive this key stream of Arts Council funding. It arrives at an important time in the evolution of the Museum of London and it enables us to continue developing best-practice. We have a vital role to continue to play supporting a sustainable, resilient and innovative museum sector across London."

At the same time as revealing the successful applicants to the Museum development, the Arts Council has also announced details of the Museum resilience fund. The fund aims to bring about a step change for museums by supporting them to become more sustainable and resilient businesses, ensuring they maximise the benefit to their communities.

The programme will complement the Arts Council's investment in Major partner museums, the Museum development fund and national programmes, and will focus on any gaps - geographical or otherwise - or development opportunities across the sector.
