Nesta Lloyd-Jones, Interim Director of the Welsh NHS Confederation responded to the update provided by the Welsh Government’s Minister for Health and Social Care on the Inter-Ministerial Group’s work on Paying for Social Care

“Funding continues to be one of the greatest challenges the social care sector is facing in Wales and over the last decade we have seen a profound effect on those services due to austerity. With an aging population and an increasing demand for services, the need to find a sustainable funding model for these services is now a matter of urgency.

“We therefore welcome this Group’s commitment to researching the medium to long term relationship between health and social care spending. We hope this research will pave the way for a funding model which allows the health and social care sector to thrive in the future.”

“A sustainable funding model alone will not provide a single silver-bullet solution to the challenges facing health and social care. We also need to continue the increasing level of collaboration between health and social care organisations, and other public sector partners, towards delivering the Welsh Government’s long-term plan.”
