NICE celebrates its 20th anniversary

Organisation was founded in April 1999 to improve outcome for health service users

The National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

Formed in 1999, our aim is to improve outcomes for service users and to get the best out the resources available in health and social care.

Much has changed in the health and care services over the last 20 years and NICE has changed with it, expanding our guidance and services and improving and updating our methods and processes.

Andrew Dillon, chief executive of NICE yesterday said:

“It has been a privilege to be part of NICE since it was established in 1999.

 “The committed, compassionate people who work at NICE and on our independent advisory committees have made a real difference to the quality of the services provided by the NHS and in social care, and by the public health community.”

During the next three months we will be highlighting some of the work NICE has done as we celebrate the organisation’s 20thanniversary.
