NLGN response to the Housing White Paper

Strong political leadership urgently needed, not just regulatory change

Adam Lent, NLGN director said:

“The housing crisis in the UK is as much about politics as it is about regulation, so while there is a lot in the housing white paper to welcome – particularly moves to get house builders building – we have to be honest that politicians have not always played the most constructive role in getting the population to accept the realities of housing development. The fact, for example, that neither of the main parties will even open a national debate about building on green belt is a case in point.

“We need politicians to be really honest with people who are lucky enough to own their own home, and tell them that they may well have to take a hit to allow struggling families and young people to live in a decent home.”
