National treasures saved from export

The 64th annual report of the Reviewing Committee on the Export of Works of Art and Objects of Cultural Interest (Reviewing Committee) was published yesterday.

Between 2017 and 2018, the Secretary of State put in place temporary export-deferrals for a wide range of ‘national treasures’ at the Reviewing Committee’s recommendation – which led to seven out of twelve being purchased by UK institutions and retained for the enjoyment of the public.
