The Innovation Agency has appointed Andrew Cooper as Clinical Director, three years after he joined the organisation as Associate Director of Patient Safety.

Andrew has over 25 years’ experience in the NHS, starting as a registered nurse, specialising in community care and more recently as a senior manager in commissioning, working across health and social care sectors.

His role at the Innovation Agency includes responsibility for delivering improvement programmes commissioned by NHS England and Improvement – in maternity and neonatal care; in early identification of patient deterioration in all care settings; in mental health; in medicines safety; and adoption and spread of innovations.

Innovation Agency Chief Executive Dr Phil Jennings yesterday said:

“Andrew has been an outstanding Associate Director, leading major programmes of patient safety improvement and building strong relationships within our region and with our national partners and commissioners.

“I know he will excel in his new role as a strategic, executive leader and influencer – and a role model for Innovation Agency staff from both clinical and non-clinical backgrounds.”

Andrew yesterday said:

“I am absolutely delighted to be appointed as Clinical Director for the Innovation Agency and I feel incredibly lucky to be able to take on this senior leadership role in such a fantastic organisation. We have an incredible team of dedicated people and we will strive to support ongoing improvements in care, adoption of innovation and economic growth through collaborative work with our partners across our region.”
