New Type 2 Diabetes Framework

17 Jul 2018 01:31 PM

NHS Health Scotland yesterday welcomed the Prevention, Early Detection and Early Intervention of Type 2 Diabetes framework, that came out from the Scottish Government. The framework sets out national guidance to support Health Boards and partners, to design and implement comprehensive weight management provision that supports people with or at risk of Type 2 Diabetes.

Frances Birch, Senior Health Improvement Officer at NHS Health Scotland said:

“Achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is an important way to help reduce the risk of Type 2 Diabetes – it can also support people with the condition to stay well. This new framework sets out ways to do this as it recognises that additional intensive support for some groups is necessary to improve health and reduce health inequalities.”

“By providing support to people with or at risk of Type 2 Diabetes to maintain a healthy weight, the framework can help to achieve some of the aims set out in the recently published A Healthier Future: Diet and Healthy Weight Delivery Plan.”

“We will continue our work with Health Boards and partners, supporting people to maintain a healthy weight, including setting minimum standards for Healthy Weight interventions and will take account of any learning from implementing this framework.”
