Grassroots and elite sport come together at annual Daily Mirror Pride of Sport Awards.

Nominations are open for the annual sports awards that recognise and celebrate the unsung individuals, teams, coaches and volunteers making sport and activity happen in the UK.

With one month to goOpen in a new window until the deadline closes, we’re inviting you to nominate the people that go the extra mile to help others, young or old, reach their goals.

Keeping Sport Alive

While we may often see our elite heroes like Mo Farah, Johanna Konta or Chris Froome on TV and podiums, we hear much less about the people behind the scenes keeping grassroots sport alive week in, week out.

They might run a netball team, help kids fall in love with mountain-biking or use dance to get disabled children active.

It could be a selfless volunteer who has given up their time to coach youngsters for years, or someone who washes kits to make sure players look their best each week.

The annual Daily Mirror Pride of Sport AwardsOpen in a new window, now in their fourth year, are our chance to celebrate what they do and give them the recognition they deserve.

Making It Easier To Take Part

Our chief executive, Jennie Price, says: “When you’re starting an activity for the first time, it can be daunting.

“What makes a difference is the people who help us along the way. The ones who offer a smile of encouragement for our first time nerves, make us laugh when we miss a catch, and make it easier for us to take part.”
