Nominations Open: techUK Defence Programme elections

10 Jun 2020 01:04 PM

Elections are now open for the Defence & Security Board and Forum Executive Committees.

techUK is delighted to open elections for both our Defence & Security Board (DSB) and for the executive committees (consisting of a Chair & Vice-Chair) of our programme Forums. The DSB is our most senior industry grouping and is comprised of senior representatives from strategically important policy areas in the Defence & National Security sectors.

The role of the DSB is to govern and provide strategic oversight to the activities of the techUK Defence Programme. The board is focused on addressing the strategic-level concerns of technology companies operating in the Defence & Security sectors, acting as the authoritative voice of the Defence Programme by engaging with senior decision makers across the MOD and wider government. The DSB ensures that the technology industry is seen within government as a critical and unique part of the wider industrial supply chain, by bringing industry leaders together to find solutions to shared challenges.

The Defence & Security Board is composed of 25 representatives from techUK member companies. 20 spaces are open to techUK members of any size. The remaining 5 spaces are reserved for SME members. The 4 elected Chairs of the Defence Programme Forums also sit on the Board but do not count towards the elected spaces. Once elected, each member company will put forward a representative sit on the DSB. The representative is expected to have Profit and Loss responsibility (P&L) for their company’s C4ISR or Information Systems / Services business (or be of a similar senior level). The Terms of Reference (ToRs) for the Board can be found attached below.

To nominate your company, please read the ToRs and then complete the form below titled DSB Nomination form. Please return to Sam Wyatt (Sam.Wyatt@techuk.org) by 17:00 on Friday 3 July 2020.

Once all nominations have been received, a notice will go out to members to vote. There will strictly be one vote per member company. The election will then be decided on a first past the post system.

We will also be holding elections for the Chair and Vice-Chair of the various forums that run activities on behalf of the Defence Programme and report into the DSB. A summary of each of these can be found below:

Defence Commercial Business Forum

The Defence Commercial Business Forum (DCBF) provides a conduit for the Commercial professional community within the techUK membership to engage with their commercial counterparts and other stakeholders within HMG, principally with in the Ministry of Defence and its Defence Digital organisation. Where appropriate, the DCBF will also engage with the Cabinet Office.

The Terms of Reference and Nomination Form can both be found attached below.

Defence & Security SME Forum

The Defence & Security SME Forum (DSMEF) provides a conduit for techUK’s SME members to engage with stakeholders in Her Majesty’s Government, principally within the Ministry of Defence and closely related Security Agencies. The DSMEF also provides a conduit for techUK’s SME members to engage with larger techUK member companies, providing them with an opportunity to understand business opportunities associated with the larger member companies of techUK.

The Terms of Reference and Nomination Form can both be found attached below.

Defence Research and Technology Forum

The Defence Research and Technology Forum (DRTF) provides a conduit for the Defence Research and Technology Community within the techUK membership to engage with their counterparts and other stakeholders within Her Majesty’s Government (HMG), principally with the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and its agencies. The DRTF promotes collaborative working between Defence and non-Defence Research and Technology stakeholders within techUK and HMG to identify common areas of interest and opportunity.

The Terms of Reference and Nomination Form can both be found attached below.

Information Superiority Forum

The Information Superiority Forum provides a conduit for techUK members operating in the Defence & Security sectors to engage with their counterparts in HMG who have an active interest in command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C4ISR). Within the MOD this is principally through the four Front Line Commands (FLCs) – Strategic Command (STRATCOM) and the three single services (RAF, British Army, Royal Navy). The ISF also engages with the MOD’s Defence Digital Organisation, the intelligence agencies, and the wider government where appropriate.

The Terms of Reference and Nomination Form can both be found attached below.

Unlike the DSB, the nominations for these Forums are for an individual rather than a company. To nominate yourself or a colleague, please read the ToRs and then complete the relevant nomination form below.

Please return it to Sam Wyatt (Sam.Wyatt@techuk.org) by 17:00 on Friday 3 July 2020. Once all nominations have been received, a notice will go out to members to vote. There will strictly be one vote per member company. The election will then be decided on a first past the post system.
