The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has yesterday launched an online space to provide more information about its new Data Science Campus and to invite expressions of interest from potential partners.

Announced in March, as part of the Chancellor’s budget (see Note to Editors), the ONS Data Science Campus will act as a hub for UK public and private sectors to gain practical advantage from the increased investment in data science research, making the most of the growth and availability of innovative data sources.

“Our aim is to help cement the UK’s reputation as an international leader in data science, developing the best possible analysis to inform decision-making in public and private sectors”, explains the ONS Director General for Data Capability, Heather Savory. “We actively welcome Academia, Government and Industry partners who wish to join us as we seek to meet the demands and challenges posed by the evolving economy and push the boundaries of data science research.”

The Campus will build an extensive national and international network with academic partners, providing funding opportunities for PhD candidates and joint research programmes with partners.

Located at the ONS headquarters in Newport, the Data Science Campus is part of the ONS’s programme of activity to transform into a more innovative, capable and outward-looking organisation.
