A stunning image of Blae Tarn has been chosen as the winner of a competition to become the new front cover of one of Ordnance Survey’s best-selling maps.

The picture was taken by Dave Massey, a photographer from Nottingham who visited the beauty spot one morning in April 2019.

Dave recently said:

“I went there because of the Spring snow on the Langdale Pikes.

“I arrived at the Tarn at 7am – where the weather was nice and calm but overcast

“I always check the weather forecast so knew it would stay calm and the skies would slowly clear.

"I took a few moody pics, then sat on a rock and waited for the sun to hit the far bank and trees – landscape photography is often about patience.

“Thankfully, the Tarn stayed pretty calm the whole time and the sun broke through briefly at 8.30am.”
