Ordnance Survey gets people active for National GetOutside Day 2018

Ordnance Survey is urging one million people across the nation to get active outdoors on Sunday 30 September for the first ever National GetOutside Day. OS has teamed up with supporters across the country to organise guided walks, cycling and other outdoor activities in a bid to encourage more people of all ages and abilities to get outside more often.

National GetOutside Day falls within ukactive's European Week of Sport which sees a huge range of events taking place nationwide in a mission to improve the health of the nation by getting more people, more active, more often.

Throughout the day, free events are taking place all over Great Britain, including two organised walks in partnership with HF Holidays, in both Shropshire and the Peak District. These walks will be led by OS GetOutside ambassadors Ben Fogle, Kenton Cool, Sean Conway and Mel Nicholls. There are also plenty more activities to get involved in hosted by OS GetOutside Champions. Or people can create their own events with free access to OS' award-winning application – OS Maps.

To find out what events are taking place nearby, people can visit the National GetOutside Daypage. From foraging to cycle rides, there are a range of activities to suit anyone, from 8 months to eighty years old. More events are still being added to the page, so check back over the coming weeks.

Ben Fogle, GetOutside Champion said:

“We want to get everyone moving and people should spend more time outside. You’ll feel better for it. When I’m outside I smile more, and it’s the one place that’s repeatedly proven to be good for both body and mind.”

Nick Giles, Managing Director of Ordnance Survey Leisure said:

“National GetOutside Day is a great way to raise the profile of physical activity in the outdoors and the role it plays in tackling inactivity across the nation. By helping more people to get outside on Sunday 30 September, it could be just the catalyst that's needed to rekindle the nations love of the outdoors. And outdoor activity helps us all to live longer, stay younger and enjoy life more.”

Founded by Ordnance Survey, the GetOutside initiative is all about getting the nation outdoors and active. It’s free, and full of inspiration, routes and guides to help more people to get outside more often.

People can get involved online by joining in the conversation using the hashtag #GetOutsideDay across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. For the latest updates on National GetOutside Day, follow @OSLeisure on Twitter.
