Building a successful Study Programme can be the key to a learner’s success and future employment prospects.

Study Programmes are made up of key components to ensure flexibility and choice, and to give your learners the best chance of success, based on their future goals.

• Core qualification – the core of the programme, with high Guided Learning Hours (GLH) and UCAS points
• Additionally qualifications – smaller qualifications designed to complement a full-time programme and enhance transferable skills and confidence
• Supporting qualifications – these underpin the Study Programme and give learners the best chance of success
• Work placement – get learners career-ready

Take a look at our 5 top tips below, and build the best curriculum for your 16-19 learners.

1. When considering core qualifications, also consider progression pathways and employment outcomes, to help improve learner progression rates beyond the Study Programme.
2. Choose additionality qualifications that will complement learning within your institution and also for individual learners.
   
   You might want to choose an area that is related to the core programme of study, or something that is related to a learner’s interests or choice of career path, to ensure it’s as relevant as it can be for the learner.
3. Consider the supporting qualifications that would benefit your learners the most, based on their individual learning preferences and their identified strengths and learning needs.
   
   NCFE’s supporting qualifications are split in to the categories of higher education, Functional Skills, employability, and life and work skills – these qualifications can give your learners the best chance of success.
   
   Remember, learners are expected to hold at least a GCSE grade 4 in maths and English. However, those who have achieved a grade 2 or below can study an alternative qualification, such as Functional Skills. Our English and maths qualifications and support will ensure your learners have what they need to succeed.
4. Source work placement Start building great relationships with employers to ensure each learner’s placement relates to their studies. Your learners need to feel motivated and engaged, and see that the work is relevant to their chosen career path.
   
   It’s also beneficial to think about employment trends and opportunities in your local area, doing this can help to increase employment prospects for learners after the Study Programme.
