Police officer charged with misconduct in public office

A Merseyside Police officer has been charged with misconduct in public office.

Temporary Police Sergeant David Andrew Gibson, 43, has been charged in relation to an allegation that whilst on duty he engaged in a sexual act with a sex worker.

TPS Gibson is currently suspended from duty.

The allegation has been subject of an investigation conducted by Merseyside Police’s Anti-Corruption Unit and managed by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

The decision to charge was authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service.

TPS Gibson will appear before Liverpool City Magistrates’ Court on 18 June 2015.
