Professor Leng has spent more than 20 years working at NICE.

Chief executive Professor Gillian Leng has announced she is to retire from NICE.

Professor Leng has worked at NICE for 20 years and took over as only the second chief executive in the organisation’s history in April 2020.

Professor Leng said:

“I will be very sad to leave but after the death of my husband earlier in the year, it is the right time for me to consider a new life with different challenges.

“My fantastic colleagues at NICE have worked amazingly hard during the pandemic and I am extremely proud of them.

“I remain absolutely committed to NICE and to working with the Board to confirm the time frame for my departure and ensure a smooth transition to new leadership.”

Chairman of NICE Sharmila Nebhrajani said:

“On behalf of the whole board I would like to express our thanks to Gill for her long and committed service to NICE over two decades and for the advances she has made in her time as Chief Executive.

“I understand completely her decision and she will leave with the warmest of wishes for a successful retirement - from all of us in the organisation and indeed from the whole health and care system.”

Details on recruitment of a successor will be provided in due course.
