This year, RoSPA proudly
introduced a new Guardian Angel Awards scheme which
recognises individuals’ commitment to safety and accident prevention,
displayed through personal initiative, diligence and enthusiasm. A total of 18
Guardian Angels and three Archangels - the highest level of award - received
their awards at ceremonies in Birmingham last week, with more due to be
presented at the subsequent ceremonies. The three RoSPA Archangels who received
their awards last week were Beckie Ramsay, Richard Taffs and Elaine Davies.
Sponsored by NEBOSH (the
National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health), the RoSPA Awards
scheme is the largest and longest-running occupational health and safety awards
programme in the UK. It recognises organisations’ commitment to
continuous improvement in the prevention of accidents and ill health at work,
looking at entrants’ overarching health and safety management systems,
including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.
While the majority of awards are
non competitive, competitive awards are presented in more than 20 industry
sectors. There are also competitive awards for specialist areas, such as the
management of occupational road risk (MORR).
This year, there were nearly
2,000 registered entries to the awards scheme, and judging is still ongoing for
organisations hoping to receive an award in Glasgow in September.
The June 17 ceremony will be
held at ExCeL London, alongside Safety and Health Expo, while the September 17 ceremony will be held
at the Hilton Glasgow alongside the RoSPA Scotland Occupational Safety and Health
Congress.
