Check out our roundup of Safer Internet Day 2018 and the exciting activity of our members and partners.
Safer Internet Day 2018, a global celebration of the safe and positive use of technology which took place on Tuesday 6 February, started with a bang: a Thunderclap reaching over 9.1 million people, that’s up from 7.7 million people last year!
Below are some of the activities which took place during the day:
- Safer Internet Day’s supporter list had more than 1,700 companies, schools, police forces, government, organisations and charities who registered in support of the day - more than any previous year.
- Schools across the UK used the Education Packs and SID TV films to inspire a national conversation around the theme: “Create, Connect and Share Respect: A better internet starts with you”.
- People across the UK joined the #ItStartsWithUs social media campaign to demonstrate that safer internet practices start at home and at school, and we all must be role models.
- Our members supported the campaign far and wide, from Samsung putting up a Safer Internet Day billboard in Piccadilly Circus, to Microsoft’s Digital Civility Index.
techUK supported Safer Internet Day 2018 with an awareness-raising message to members from techUK's CEO Julian David’s article in ComputerWeekly, which highlighted the importance of building online safety practices with young people. We look forward to continuing work on this important agenda with its members.
