Save water without breaking sweat as temperatures soar

It’s not just temperatures that have been soaring over the past month – so has our demand for water with latest figures suggesting water companies are pumping out an extra 2.25 billion litres every day.

The increase in use has been fuelled by the driest May since records began and compounded by the fact more of us are spending time at home during the coronavirus outbreak. The sunshine has given many of us a lift during lockdown but it’s important to think about our precious water resources and the environment we take if from too.

Although there is currently enough water to go round, companies across many parts of the country have struggled to pipe it out quick enough as we seek ways to cool off and spend more time tending to gardens.

The threat of restrictions this summer remains a long way off but we can all help reduce the risk further by taking small steps to save water in the home and garden which could pay dividends now and later in the year.

You might also save money on your water bill if you’re a metered customer.
