Simon Hart has taken up his role as Secretary of State for Wales following his appointment by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Mr Hart was re-elected as MP for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire in last week’s General Election on 12 December.

Following his appointment Mr Hart pledged to continue to provide a strong voice for Wales at the Cabinet table.

Secretary of State for Wales Simon Hart MP yesterday said:

It is a privilege to be appointed to the Office of the Secretary of State for Wales. I now look forward to doing all I can to ensure that Welsh jobs, opportunities and interests are at the heart of the UK Government’s ambitious plans for our great union.

That includes delivering Brexit in a way that works for Wales and all parts of the UK, boosting economic growth in Wales, driving inward investment and creating a fairer society.

My team and I will now work tirelessly to champion the needs of all parts of Wales so that we strengthen our nation’s place in the UK and, in turn, help deliver better opportunities for future generations.

Monmouth MP David Davies was appointed Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Wales.

Mr Davies yesterday said:

It is a honour to serve the people of Wales. We will use our voice at the heart of the UK Government to help all our communities maximise their potential, drive growth and investment and make a real difference to people’s daily lives.
